Changes to HAPO VISA Credit Cards . Elimination of Floor Limit
Q. How does this change affect me?
A. This change only affects our Platinum cardholders with open VISA accounts.
If your open Platinum account is currently carrying a 9.75% APR, the affect on your account will be that your 9.75% balance prior to March 24, 2010 will be fixed at its 9.75% rate. New transactions moving forward will assume the new, reduced rate of Prime +5.75%, which is currently 9.00% APR.
If your open Platinum account is currently at a rate other than 9.75% APR, your current balance will not be affected. The reduction of our rate tier for Platinum cardholders with credit scores 750-999 means that when we update credit scores and account rates in the future, your rate could potentially be as low as Prime +5.75%, and not limited to a rate no lower than 9.75% APR.
Q. Why is HAPO making this change?
A. The elimination of floor limits on variable rate credit cards is a new provision of the CARD Act of 2009. In completing this mandatory change, HAPO enhanced an already great product by implementing a lower rate.
Q. What official notice will be sent to me?
A. A letter including a notice of change in terms was mailed in early February. Members should retain this information for their files.
Q. When will the changes take effect?
A. Balances currently at a 9.75% APR will be fixed as of the end of the day March 23, 2010. This can be seen on your March VISA statement. Members with open Platinum accounts at 9.75% will begin to receive the reduced rate of Prime +5.75% APR for new transactions on March 24, 2010. This new rate will be seen on April's statement.
Q. Are the existing benefits and features of my HAPO VISA affected?
A. No, HAPO will continue to provide our members with credit cards that offer the best overall value with features and benefits including:
- Competitive rates
- No cash advance fee
- No balance transfer fee
- No annual fee
- One low rate for purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers
Q. Will the change affect my promotional rate balance?
