Visa Changes

Changes to HAPO VISA Credit Cards Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why is HAPO making this change?
A. This change will allow us to always make sure our members are receiving a fair market based rate. The recent legislation restricts changing terms in the future. Moving to a variable rate means we can keep our rates competitive without constantly changing cardholder terms. Our members will continue to enjoy great rates, and a card with NO cash advance fees, NO balance transfer fees, and NO annual fees.

Q. How is HAPO determining the variable rate?
A.Our variable rate will be based on the Wall Street Journal Prime Rate. This ensures you'll always have a fair market based rate. One of the benefits of your HAPO VISA is a rate ceiling of 18%.

Q. When will the changes take effect?
A. Changes will be effective on January 23, 2010.

Q. Are the existing benefits and features of my HAPO VISA affected?
A. No, HAPO will continue to provide our members with credit cards that offer the best overall value with features and benefits including:

  • Competitive rates
  • No cash advance fee
  • No balance transfer fee
  • No annual fee
  • One low rate for purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers

Q. Will this rate be applied to my existing balance?
A. Yes, this rate will be applied to your existing balance and future balances as of January 23, 2010.

Q. Will the change affect my promotional rate balance?
A. No. Your promotional rate balance will continue to receive its special rate according its original terms.

Q. Will I be sent official notice for my records?
A. A letter including a notice of change in terms was mailed in mid-November. Members should retain this information for their files.

Q. What if I don't accept the new terms?
A. If you decide not to accept the change from fixed to variable rate, you are entitled to opt out. If you decide to do this, your credit card will be closed for future transactions while you pay off the balance at your card's current rate. If you decide not to opt out, you will continue to enjoy the great benefits of your HAPO VISA. We are proud to offer a quality product with great rates and personal service.
