11/10/20 -- Covid Relief Scams on Social Media

Nov 10, 2020, 12:28 PM

Don’t fall for covid relief scams on social media.

We’re beginning to see holiday covid relief scams circulating on social media. One hot scam involves messages or shared posts that appear to be from friends (or friends of friends) suggesting that your friend knows how you can get grant money during the pandemic.

The post or message may use names of familiar banks and credit unions where you can get relief, but then asks for personal information like your account or online banking user name and password. Don’t fall for it! Never give out your personal information, such as your PIN, bank account, online banking credentials or social security number. Legitimate companies will never ask you to send money back either.

If you do need financial help due to covid-19, visit bank and credit union websites directly. To apply for financial relief or learn more about HAPO’s program, visit our Financial Relief page
