Spring is in the air and you know what that means! Clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere….Time to reset, refresh, and get to that project that has been calling your name all winter long. We often think about projects around the home,
but what about your financial wellbeing, and furthermore your credit. No matter where you are in your credit journey, there is always work to be done. Let’s get that credit neat and tidy!
Here are 3 steps to Spring Clean your credit.
- Roll up your sleeves and get your hands on your credit report. The first thing you want to do is gain access to your current credit report. There are many ways that you can do this. Some websites will charge for this service but there is no
need to spend a penny. Every year, you are entitled to one free credit report from each one of the major credit bureaus. Visit annualcreditreport.com to check your report for free. Stagger pulling each report from the three different credit bureaus
over the year so that you can see what’s going on in your credit report every few months. Doing so can help you spot potential fraud or ID theft sooner than later.
- Use a credit-monitoring tool. What about your credit score? By using a credit-monitoring tool, not only will you have access to your credit report, but you will also have an idea of what your credit score is. In fact, HAPO provides free access
to SavvyMoney, a credit monitoring tool, free for all members. This is a great credit monitoring tool that allows you to view your open and closed credit lines, collections, public records, inquiries and personal details such as names and addresses
used in the past. SavvyMoney also has a built in Credit Simulator to help assess where your credit score could be if you were to pay off a credit card, close an account or get a new loan. What a great way to help you fine-tune that score
to where you want it to be!
